Dear Skaters,

Congratulations on being part of the largest ever ISU International Adult Figure Skating Competition held this past May in Oberstdorf, Germany.

As you know, more than 700 skaters from 34 ISU member countries participated over the six-day competition. There were more than 900 performances in total including a record number of synchro teams – nine.

Since the ISU Adult Competitions began 14 years ago, we have noticed a steady increase not only in the number of participants, but in the quality of skating. Whether you competed at bronze level or masters elite, we congratulate you on your achievements and look forward to celebrating further successes with you in the years to come.

As the adult skating community continues to grow, it becomes ever more vital that the integrity of the competitions is maintained. Unlike junior competitions, we do not have qualifying criteria or test requirements. Instead, everyone is able to enter the ISU adult competitions at the level they deem appropriate for their skating ability. However, this means that each competitor bears their own share of the responsibility for the fairness and integrity of our sport.

As you reflect on your skating performances and start planning for the 2018/19 ISU season, we would therefore ask you all to review your performences in relation to others in your category and in relation to the technical requirements. Please also review the marks in the level above yours as well as the level below. If your marks indicate that you should now change the level you enter – whether that be one above or one below – please consider making the change well in advance of your next ISU competition.

Each year, we invite your feedback and input so we can make the ISU Adult competitions even better. The Vancouver Announcement has just been updated following the ISU Congress meetings held in Seville, Spain this June. The rules in this Announcement will also be used for the next Oberstdorf competition.

The deadline for the ISU Competition in Vancouver, Canada (Oct. 10-13, 2018) is fast approaching (August 15). We hope to see you there.
